All About Morningsickness

When you hear about morningsickness, you automatically think about expectant mothers. This is because most expectant mothers end up getting a bout of morningsickness.

For some women, the morningsickness, which includes nausea and vomiting, occurs when the awaken in the morning. Morningsickness is due to the fluctuation in hormone levels that occur when a woman is pregnant. Because of the tremendous hormonal changes in the body that take place during this time, women tend to get nauseous as well as tired. This usually happens between the third and 12th week of pregnancy.

Some women experience morningsickness in the evening. Although it is called morningsickness and many women feel this pang when they get up in the morning, others feel it at night or even during the day. Morningsickness can occur at any time of the day.

While many women get a degree of morningsickness when they are expecting, for most it is not severe. The nausea will stop around the 12th week of pregnancy as the hormones have time to adjust. Some women, however, report that they get morningsickness throughout the pregnancy. They are sick constantly and have trouble keeping food down. This can be dangerous as it is important that a pregnant woman get proper nourishment when she is having a baby. Doctors will usually give a woman a special diet if she is having that much trouble with morningsickness.

If you are pregnant or are thinking of getting pregnant and are worried about morningsickness, do not fret. It is a brief and normal condition that causes a minimum of discomfort during your pregnancy. It does pass. In many cases, eating light meals instead of large meals can alleviate some of the morningsickness. It is also helpful to eat crackers when you feel an attack coming on.

Once your hormone levels adjust, you will no longer have the nausea and fatigue that accompany morningsickness. You will start to have your old energy back. It is very rare that morningsickness accompanies a woman into her second trimester of pregnancy, although it can happen.

In some cases, a woman may experience bouts of morningsickness after she has had her baby. This is because the hormone levels are again adjusting themselves. In such cases, the attacks are brief and do not last longer than a week, if that.

There are no safe medications to quell morningsickness. If you find that you are sick all of the time and are having trouble keeping down food, you should talk to your doctor. They may be able to recommend a special diet that you can take to alleviate the sickness. In some rare cases, morningsickness can be magnified by the vitamins that are prescribed during pregnancy as well as iron pills. The doctor will usually give you different vitamins to take to see if that causes you any relief.

Although it is a nuisance, morningsickness is a normal part of pregnancy and is nothing over which to fret. Eat small meals and remember that the end result of this will be a beautiful new baby.
